The Lagos State Criminal Justice Sector Reform Committee (LSCJSRC) was established under Section 375 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State (Amendment) Law 2021. We are a high-level policy making, implementation and oversight coordinating mechanism that brings together State and non-State actors from the criminal justice sector to drive comprehensive reform.

What is the LSCJSRC?The LSCJSRC is a statutory body established under Section 375 of the ACJL 2021 to coordinate and reform the criminal justice system in Lagos State.What is the ACJL?The ACJL is Lagos State's law regulating criminal procedure, designed to ensure speedy trials, protect defendants' rights, and promote efficient justice administration.How often does the Committee meet?The Committee meets at least once quarterly as required by Section 379 of the ACJL, with emergency meetings as necessary. The Sub-Committee meets monthly.How long should someone be detained before being charged?Under the ACJL and Constitution, suspects must be brought before a court within reasonable time - typically 24-48 hours depending on the offence.Who is eligible for bail?Most offenses are bailable. Only capital offenses may require special conditions. Inability to afford bail should not keep someone in detention.
