  • What is the Lagos State Criminal Justice Sector Reform Committee?
The LSCJSRC is a statutory body established under Section 375 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law 2021 to coordinate and reform the criminal justice system in Lagos State.
What is the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL)?
The ACJL is Lagos State's law regulating criminal procedure, designed to ensure speedy trials, protect defendants' rights, and promote efficient justice administration.
How often does the Committee meet?
The Committee meets at least once quarterly as required by Section 379 of the ACJL, with emergency meetings as necessary. The Sub-Committee meets monthly.
    How is the Committee funded?
The Committee Fund (Section 385, ACJL) receives budgetary allocation from Lagos State and grants from public, private, or international organizations.
  • How long should someone be detained before being charged?
Under the ACJL and Nigerian Constitution, suspects must be brought before a court within a reasonable time - typically 24-48 hours depending on the offence.
    Who is eligible for bail?
Most offenses are bailable. Only capital offenses may require special conditions. Inability to afford bail should not keep someone in detention.
What if my case has been delayed for years?
Report it immediately to the Committee. Prolonged delay violates the right to speedy trial, and we can intervene.
Does the Committee provide legal representation?
We don't provide direct representation but connect you with legal aid services through OPD, Legal Aid Council, and NBA pro bono network.
